This workshop, held on 13 – 16 November 2008 in Zagreb, Croatia, explored ways to ensure that NATO, Partner, and Mediterranean Dialogue countries maximise the scientific resources available to them, and highlighted ways they can take better advantage of the role of independent scientists in threat assessment.

Kit Hill, Professor Pugwash: The Man Who Fought Nukes. Written for people of all ages and with the science accessibly explained, Kit Hill’s biographical sketch is a delightful introduction to one of the major figures of our times.
A session of the Euroscience Open Forum in Barcelona on 19 July 2008, organised by British and French Pugwash and the WMD Awareness Programme, discussed the way in which scientific and technical considerations are used in nuclear weapons decision-making in Europe, and contrasted it with the situation in the US.
British Pugwash and SOAS co-hosted a public conference on Disarmament and a Possible WMDFZ in the Middle East in London on 17th June 2008.
At a special meeting at University College London on 8 April 2008 to launch the Joseph Rotblat Centenary Year, speakers were Nobel Laureate Prof. Sir John Sulston, Prof. Alistair Hay and John Ainslie.
