Looking back at the 2026 NPT Review Conference

The Eleventh Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT RevCon) ended on 22 May. The UN have produced materials explaining what happened at the conference. Whilst the RevCon appeared to have failed as it ended without an agreement on outcomes- resulting from the extremely challenging political context- there were also positive signs, which should reassure those concerned about the future of the treaty.

The materials include:

  1. A video of the press conference featuring Do Hung Viet, President of the NPT RevCon and Izumi Nakamitsu, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, following the closing of the RevCon.

2. A review of the RevCon, considering why the conference ended without an agreement on a consensus outcome document, even as the international community faces mounting and interrelated threats.

3. The Reaching Critical Will website also contains a range of other information on the RevCon.
