Peter Jenkins, a former UK Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency and Shashank Joshi, a Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute debate the accuracy of the claim made on 15 July by Defence Minister Philip Hammond on BBC Radio that: “We do not believe that, with nuclear threats if anything proliferating, with more countries seeking to get nuclear weapons, this is the time to downgrade [the UK’s nuclear deterrent].”
