Student/Young Pugwash UK is delighted to release a new report on developments with hypersonic missile technology. The paper covers the latest technologies, the key states involved, the risks posed and the potential ways forward for arms control and non-proliferation.

The report was developed by Matteo Frigoli, a young legal scholar with specialist interests in space and nuclear policy. We would like to thank British Pugwash for sponsoring the production of this report.

The Salisbury poisonings – one year after

Our guest speaker was Dr Richard Guthrie, a member of British Pugwash Executive Committee and an expert on chemical and biological weapons.

The talk covered some of the events during and after the Salisbury poisonings in March last year, from both political and technical perspectives.

We are grateful to SOAS’ Centre for International Studies and Diplomacy (CISD), for co-hosting the event and their continued support for British Pugwash.

Student/Young Pugwash (SYP) UK brings together students, researchers, practitioners and campaigners interested in international security and the interface between politics and science. We are a part of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs, which uses the best social and natural science expertise to inform governments and the public about issues relating to Weapons of Mass Destruction – especially nuclear weapons – issues of war and peace, the environment and the social responsibility of scientists.

On the 18th May, SYP UK will hold a Strategy Day for its members and partners to brainstorm plans for the year ahead. There’ll also be a chance to enjoy some time out and about in (a hopefully sunny) Manchester.

(Discussion of the structure of SYP UK, concrete plans for the year ahead etc.)

16.00 – Social time

(Drinks by the canal at Bridge 5 Mill, then trip to the Northern Quarter for those with stamina)
